Nuveen Infrastructure joins SolarPower Europe

Nuveen Infrastructure (“Nuveen”), one of the world’s largest fund managers investing in clean energy, have announced they are the latest organisation to join trade association SolarPower Europe.

The move sees Nuveen join nearly over 280 organisations across the European solar supply chain in presenting a unified industry voice to shape the EU’s policy and environment. Membership of the trade body further confirms the firm’s status as a leader in the continent’s renewables business community, after over a decade as one of Europe’s largest clean energy investors having acquired Glennmont Partners in recent years.

Nuveen have joined SolarPower Europe following a series of recent European investments, including the acquisition of a 65MW of Italian solar PV portfolio in April of this year. This has come alongside a period of sustained success for Nuveen’s own IPP, BNZ, which manages over 1,7 GW across Southern Europe and has currently over 200 MWp of solar PV projects under construction.

Membership of SolarPower Europe also underscores Nuveen’s strong commitment to ESG, as they join SolarPower Europe’s Solar Steward Initiative. This initiative is designed to further develop supply chain transparency and sets a set of overall ESG performance standards in the solar supply chain.

Joost Bergsma, CEO and Managing Partner at Glennmont Partners from Nuveen, said about joining SolarPower Europe:

“We have been a significant investor in European solar for over fifteen years, and our membership of SolarPower Europe further underscores the key role for solar that lies ahead.

Nuveen Infrastructure sees enormous potential of Solar PV one of the lowest-cost, most versatile, and most job-creating and clean energy source as Europe accelerates its energy transition investments.   As solar is now significantly scaled up in Europe, it is now even more critical to maintain tight supply chain integrity, which is why we are pleased to commit to the solid uniform set of ESG best practice that SolarPower Europe’s steward initiative provides.”

SolarPower Europe has recently been ranked by InfluenceMap as the second leading EU association for climate policy engagement. The accolade comes as the body has been positively engaging with EU energy and climate policy, strongly supporting the Paris Agreement goals.

Important information on risk

Past performance is no guarantee of future results. All investments carry a certain degree of risk, including the possible loss of principal, and there is no assurance that an investment will provide positive performance over any period of time. Certain products and services may not be available to all entities or persons. There is no guarantee that investment objectives will be achieved.

Investors should be aware that alternative investments are speculative, subject to substantial risks including the risks associated with limited liquidity, the potential use of leverage, potential short sales and concentrated investments and may involve complex tax structures and investment strategies. Alternative investments may be illiquid, there may be no liquid secondary market or ready purchasers for such securities, they may not be required to provide periodic pricing or valuation information to investors, there may be delays in distributing tax information to investors, they are not subject to the same regulatory requirements as other types of pooled investment vehicles, and they may be subject to high fees and expenses, which will reduce profits.

As an asset class, real assets are less developed, more illiquid, and less transparent compared to traditional asset classes. Real asset investments will be subject to risks generally associated with the ownership of real estate-related assets and foreign investing, including changes in economic conditions, currency values, environmental risks, the cost of and ability to obtain insurance, and risks related to leasing of properties.

Responsible investing incorporates Environmental Social Governance (ESG) factors that may affect exposure to issuers, sectors, industries, limiting the type and number of investment opportunities available, which could result in excluding investments that perform well.
