About John MacCarthy

John is a consultant to Nuveen. His responsibilities include serving as a director on the Global Cities Board and Nuveen’s Irish UCITS fund Board as well as consulting on Legal matters. Until the end of 2018, John was the Chief Legal Officer of Nuveen. John was appointed Chief Operating Officer of TIAA Global Real Assets in January 2016, where his responsibilities included overseeing and serving on the boards of subsidiary asset managers specializing in real estate, agriculture, timber, agribusiness private equity, and middle market lending.

John joined Nuveen Investments as General Counsel in 2006, becoming Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel in 2008. Before joining Nuveen, he held various positions at the law firm of Winston & Strawn LLP starting in 1985.

John holds a B.A. in History and Economics from Williams College and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
