About Shalinni Thompson
Shalinni is the Managing Director and Chief Compliance Officer of Nuveen Alternative Advisors, LLC (“NAA”) which is a registered investment advisor of the SEC. NAA manages separate accounts, unregistered investment funds, joint venture vehicles utilizing private credit, real estate, private equity, agriculture, timber, infrastructure, energy, impact investing and other related strategies. As the CCO, Shalinni is responsible for implementing the Compliance program in accordance with Rule 206(4)-7 of the Investment Adviser Act across all the Nuveen’s affiliate business lines within NAA’s purview.
Prior to transferring to Compliance in 2010, Shalinni was a Manager of Fund Administration in the SEC Reporting division for Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (“TIAA”). The team was responsible for the oversight of the functional operations performed by third party vendors of the funds/products and played a key role in the regulatory filing processes. Shalinni held similar positions at both Prudential in Newark, NJ and Merrill Lynch Asset Management in Princeton NJ. In addition, Shalinni spent 2 years at E&Y in the tax compliance department preparing/reviewing 1120 RICs as well as excise tax returns for numerous clients.
Shalinni earned a B.S. in Accounting from Kean University in Union, NJ and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Shalinni is also one of the National Co-Chairs for the ACHIEVE BRG, member of the National Association of Black Accountants and a committee member of the North Carolina Chapter of 100 Women in Finance. Shalinni is a New Jersey native who moved to Charlotte in 2005. The mother of two college aged students, Jalen and Kayla, and a 1-year-old French Bulldog named Carter, in her free time, she travels, commits time to community service and lives life to its fullest.
